Today, William Steig is best known as the author of the book Shrek, upon which the hit films are based. Cartoonist and children’s book author Steig was also a patient of Reich’s and later his friend. He illustrated Reich’s 1948 book Listen, Little Man! and was instrumental in the 1950s in raising money for Reich’s legal fund. This article first appeared in the Orgone Energy Bulletin, Volume 4, Number One (January 1952, p. 32-36) ), and in it, Steig writes movingly about the creative process and the contributions of Reich’s work to that process.
